Oconee County Emergency Management Agency (OCEMA) is staffed by 3 full time County employees, a Director, an Administrative Assistant, and a Secretary.

Ordinance No. 80-9 created the Oconee County Emergency Management Commission, which advises the Oconee County Council on all aspects of the OCEMA activities.  OCEMA Commission

Our Mission

Oconee County will provide for the protection of the people and resources in the county in order to minimize damage, injury and loss of life resulting from any type of disaster, including war; provide for the continuity of government; and, provide for damage assessment and survey of damage, private and public, resulting from such emergency.

Oconee County Emergency Management Agency's Responsibilities

bulletPreparing for, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from all natural and technological disasters, as well as enemy and terrorist attacks.
bulletDevelop and maintain the County Emergency Operations Plan.
bulletDirecting the Oconee County Rescue Squad, composed of 170 volunteers, which responds to over 4000 emergency calls per year.  The majority of these calls are medical first responder emergencies to assist EMS.
bulletCoordinate the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), composed of 68 community volunteers, which is responsible for the planning and maintenance of the chemical database for local businesses.
bulletChairing the County Homeland Security Task Force, composed of 40 community volunteers and professionals.  Citizen Checklist
bulletPrepare response and recovery plans by providing protocols/checklists for the various acts of terrorism.
bulletCoordinate responder training on the many different biological and chemical agents.
bulletProvide public education by disseminating information through the media and public speaking engagements.
bulletManaging the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the event of an emergency or disaster.
bulletCoordinating the emergency backup communications (ARES/RACES ham radio) operators.
bulletChairing the Special Needs Task Force which monitors and assists special needs population in the event of an emergency.
bulletCoordinating the County Animal Emergency Response Committee.
bulletCoordinating the County Special Medical Needs population and shelter.  Special Medical Needs
bulletCoordinates County response with the American Red Cross response to emergency/disaster incidents.  Red Cross

The Oconee County Emergency Management Agency's (OCEMA) office hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  OCEMA is physically located in the basement of the Oconee County Law Enforcement Center.
