EVACUATION PLANS FOR BUSINESSES

KNOW YOUR BUILDING

·        Employees should be aware of multiple escape routes.  Companies should make sure exits are not locked or blocked.

·        Know where your stairwells are and get out as fast as you can.

·        Don’t rely on a floor plan map with arrows pointing to doorways – make sure you have tried all the exits.

FIND OUT WHO’S IN CHARGE

·        Businesses should have an emergency response coordinator and teams of employees trained to guide co-workers out of the building and to provide first aid and CPR.

·        Businesses also should set up systems to help handicapped employees.  Two people should be assigned to help each co-worker in need.

FIND SAFETY SUPPLIES

·        Know where flashlights, radio, first-aid kits and water are.

BE ACCOUNTED FOR

·        Your employer should designate a place to meet after evacuation.

PRACTICE

·        A company should stage practice drills twice a year.

BE AWARE

·        All employees can help make their workplace safer by reporting anything out of the ordinary.
