The Clerk of Court is the records keeper. This includes General Sessions, Civil, Family, and Juvenile Court. The office is responsible for accepting and processing all paperwork concerning these courts along with maintaining records as required by law.
Duties in Civil Court include receiving and maintaining all paperwork in Civil cases, scheduling jury and non-jury trials, as well as motions. The Clerk works very closely with the Administrative Judge to assure that these courts run efficiently.
Duties in General Sessions Court consist of the acceptance and maintaining of all warrants, forwarding required documents to other state and county agencies. The Clerk also coordinates the Grand Jury activities with the Solicitors Office and with the Administrative Judge.
Duties in Family Court include receiving and maintaining all records of a Family Court or Juvenile Court nature. We are required to schedule hearings, process and disburse child support payments; determine and schedule hearings for past due child support and assist in filing of domestic violence cases.
The Clerks Office is also responsible for selecting jurors for Civil and General Sessions Court. This process begins with a computerized random selection of jurors that consist of persons living in Oconee County that possess a Voters Registration Card, South Carolina Drivers License or Identification Card. Jurors are then mailed a standard package supplied by the South Carolina Court Administration and are required to return requested information within three (3) days.
